s2s 2013

I ran for a new team at Ski to Sea this year. They had intentions to win their category. I'm never quite sure about anything except that I need to run fast. We got Whatcom County Mixed 1st Place. The trophy is like 4ft tall & our names will be inscribed, which is pretty cool. It wanted to travel to the Klicks afterparty to be filled with beer... I've been running at most 25 miles/wk. & racing on this base. I'm not exhausted every day & it feels really good to put in minimal effort & be mostly successful with it. However, if I want to really make something of this I should probably commit a bit more. I was 2nd fastest woman down the mountain with my fastest time ever. This year's race was particularly awful because of the rain. I picked up my cross country skier & road cyclist, somehow fit their equipment in my 2-door, drove up the mountain at 5am, and hung out in a severely cold downpour, ran drenched down the mountain, and had to huddle in with a couple hundred people around 2 heat lamps & beneath building overhangs for a few hours waiting for the cars to come down the mountain. In the least, I shared this drama with Will, who had never run the leg before & he had enough spirit for the both of us. We were dancing, shaking asses, taking hits of whiskey, glaring at the older women with their duffels filled with wool, blankets & nutella... It's such an authentic & unreal sight to see all these sad legs hobbling around, trying to walk to their cars, falling down the mountain. I love the pain. I'm loving it right now a week later & how I can't walk down the stairs. It's unmatchable. Mother has offered to set up a closet door on the stairwell so that I can just slide down when I need something.

L drove up from Seattle to celebrate with us girls, which was really nice seeing as the freeway fell into the Skagit river... They came to awards, we got coffee, went to a delicious place for panini's & 1/2 carafes of wine a piece. Then we waltzed over to the Klicks afterparty & schmoozed with the runners & locals. Got to catch up with some really fun old balls, talk shit, I might have drank a couple beers through a homemade red vines licorice straw. Some fast girls talked about putting a team together for the cross season. I'm down. Seeing as I just destroyed my legs for the pure joy of a tough race.
