My good friend, Lauren Williams-Hoag of Otherbird lives a dreamy, yummy, creative life. A day in the life includes cat harassment of her feral barn cat Mona, sippin' tea, while slicing and sewing homemade designs out of upcycled fabrics found thrifting across the state. She is a self-taught seamstress with an incredible eye for placement, intrigue, local allure, foretelling cultural trends, dressing the locals in nonchalant product placement from Rainier cans to Seahawk heads. When we were younger we'd travel south on sale days for thrift finds outside of college cities, and still do; with her teaching me the art of bin-hunting at Goodwill Outlet stores, bringing the gloves, anticipating bin replacement. (It's an exciting game something similar & more often rewarding than that of storage locker hunts.) Williams-Hoag has worked with Urban Outfitters, 4 Starrs, and maintains an online store through Etsy as well as a booth at local markets. My style has evolved this last year; I'm more apt to choose the hoodie & boyfriend jeans than the tailored-for-someone-else-but-still-tailored Look of the 70's-90's. Because of her I am supported in soft fleece inners & kooky outers, maintaining the evolution of my style while incorporating things like knitted shorts & polyester spanx-pants alongside her designs. Williams-Hoag has a steady inventory of sweaters, hoodies, short & long sleeve, tanks, skirts, headbands, boot toppers, onesies, and baby wear.
